A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of the students by acting with integrity, fairness and in an ethical manner.
Model principles of self-awareness, reflective practice, transparency, and ethical behavior
An excellent educator is a reflective educator, constantly learning and growing from both successes and challenges. Feedback is a gift. It is a mirror that allows us to reflect on our own practice, celebrating the positive aspects of our work while working to change areas that could be better. Of course, accepting constructive criticism isn't always easy, especially when that feedback is tied to an evaluation score. Oftentimes, the way in which information is presented can be the difference between a positive growth opportunity and a negative interaction. For that reason, I am especially fond of the "Ladder of Feedback Guide for Classroom Observations." Adapted by Dr. Ron Ritchhart, the "Ladder of Feedback is a protocol or structure that establishes a culture of trust and constructive support by sequencing feedback in an order that is constructive."
This past year, my colleague and I had the tremendous honor of hosting Dr. Ritchhart in our classroom, and as a result of this interaction, were able to solicit feedback. While Dr. Ritchhart did not use the Ladder of Feedback template, he did construct his comments in the same manner. This allowed me to adapt his comments for example purposes below.
